[Rezension] Cynthia Leitich Smith - Eternal

Inhalt (lt. Rückentext):
At last, Miranda is the life of the party: all she had to do was die. In the afterlife, she goes from high-school stage wannabe to vixen vampire-princess overnight. Meanwhile, Zachary, her reckless guardian angel, goes undercover in a bid to save his girl's soul before all hell arrives - quite literally - on their doorstep.

Zum Buch:
To put a spin on the old saying, it's okay if you don't believe in angels.
We believe in you.

Miranda lives her life like every other girl until the age of 17. She does know nothing of her dedicated guardian angel who watches her day and night. And who is deeply in love with her. Zachary was with her from the moment she took her first breath and has never left her side. Panic assailes him as a dark shadow begins to enclose Miranda - he knows her dying day has come. But the angel won't let her go and when Miranda and her friend Lucy visit the cemetery at night, he shows himself in full glory to save his girl from tumbling into a digged hole and die in there.
Of course his showing himself does not go unpunished: The archangel Michael himself takes his etheral powers and makes Zachary live in the mortal world from now on. And he has news for the guardian angel: Mirandas soul is now forfeit. A vampire (or eternal as they like to be called) has claimed and kidnapped her to make the girl part of his world. Zachary is now on a mission to find his one true love and try to save her soul.
Meanwhile Miranda wakes up in a foreign place, watched by a foreign man. He introduces himself as Radford, her "father". Miranda soon realizes that she is no longer a human being but has unimaginable powers, more money than she could ever spend, and everything else she could ever have dreamed of. Family and friends are soon forgotten and the girl revels in the unkown realm of the eternals. Drinking blood and behaving like a real vampire princess is every day business for her after overcoming her "soul sickness" - as her father calls it. A year passes by and even though Miranda cannot agree to everything her eternal father demands of her, she is pleased with her style of living.
Zachary spends this year searching for Miranda, writhing in earthly pleasures like alcohol, sex and the like. Everywhere he sees his girl and is heartbroken whenever he realizes it isn't her. He is more than relieved to find himself one day acompanied by his old friend Joshua, another guardian angel. Josh comes with a message from above: Zachary has to fulfill one task to be welcomed again to heaven. Missing his old life Zachary agrees and immediately follows his mission. It leads him to Chicago's vampire district where a young princess is in search of a personal assisstant. The angel can't believe his luck when he learns it is Miranda searching. She employs him, not knowing who he is for she has never seen him and cannot remember him from the night of her death.
With her father gone for a month Miranda suddenly has more freedom than in the whole past year. She spends time with her new PA Zachary and learns to know and - finally - love him.
Tragically, Zachary knows they can have no future together. Miranda will soon lose what is left of her former being and become one of the brutal vampires surrounding her. Her guardian angel sees only one chance to save her soul...

Rezeption:
